Roscommon Arts Centre’s Autumn/Winter theatre season kicks off in style as Nomad Theatre Network and Livin’ Dred Theatre Company present Tom Murphy’s BAILEGANGAIRE on September 16th & 17th.
This is a major new touring production of Bailegangaire, first performed by Druid Theatre Company in 1985. Directed by Padraic McIntyre, (The Dead School, The Kings of The Kilburn High Road), and starring Joan Sheehy (Father Ted), Clare Monnelly (Moone Boy) and Maeve Fitzgerald (The Secret Scripture), Tom Murphy’s extraordinary play, centers around Mommo, who tells over and over again a story she never finishes of how the town came to be known as Bailegangaire, the town without laughter. Mommo is attended by her two granddaughters, Mary and Dolly. The younger women yearn to be free of the past in order to make a new beginning, and Mary comes to believe that to do so the story of Bailegangaire has to be concluded.
This is a piece of theatre not to be missed and seeing as one of the performances happens to fall on Culture Night – Friday September 16th, a night when all of Ireland is encouraged to go out and experience cultural events around the country, this is the perfect reason to get booking now on 09066 25824 / www.roscommonartscentre.ie
