July Meeting at Roscommon Races just days away

The racing will be competitive and the fashion stakes will be high as Roscommon Races hosts a two-day meeting on Monday and Tuesday next, July 4th and 5th.

SuperValu Ladies Evening on Monday

Monday’s Racing begins at 5.55pm and with the feature race of the evening being the Lenebane Stakes with €45,000 in prize money, many big names of the racing world will be present. The Lenebane Stakes is a listed flat race over one and a half miles and no doubt some high class horses will be contesting this event.

Monday also features the Best Dressed Lady Competition, a firm fixture on the calendar, and one of the most popular meetings of the year. Once again the Super Valu stores of County Roscommon are sponsoring the top prize is €2,000 Cash Prize. The other nine finalists will receive a €100 Cash Prize. New local sponsor Rosmed Pharmacy and Lilac Rooms will also present a goodie bag to the nine runners-up in this competition. Celebrity judge on the evening will be the well-known Marietta Doran, Stylist and Presenter. Commenting on the event she said “I am really looking forward to judging Ladies Day at Roscommon Races on Monday, July 4th and I hope to see everyone embracing the ‘Fourth of July’ theme. I will be looking for ‘head-to-toe’ glamour, colour and a nod to current summer trends. My choice of Best Dressed Lady will exude confidence, be comfortable in her own skin and look amazing.”

Michael Finneran, Roscommon Racecourse Manager said “We’re really looking forward to the two days of racing, and it goes with saying that some sunshine would make a great festival even better. Our sponsors have come up trumps once again; their loyalty and support of the racecourse knows no bounds. As is the case with the many people who travel from near and far to sample the atmosphere.”

The prize for the Best Turned Out Horse in each race is sponsored by Lynch Flooring, Golf Links Road, Roscommon. There is music in the main bar after the second last race with Henry and The Usual Suspects. With Ladies Day growing year on year, patrons are advised to arrive early.

National Hunt Racing on Tuesday

On Tuesday evening, racing begins at 6 p.m. and racing consists of five hurdle races and two bumpers. The feature race on the card is the Connolly’s Red Mills Novice Hurdle. The race sponsors for the evening are Connolly’s Red Mils, The Dolan Family, Keen Print, Martinstown Stud, EBF/ITBA. The prize for the Best Turned Out Horse in each race is sponsored by Glamorous Dogs/Keshia Casey.

St. Croan’s GAA Club are once again running a fund raising event at the races on Tuesday in a separate area in the enclosure. Tickets are available from any member of the committee of the club. They cost €25 to include admission, race card, €5 bet, finger food and music. St. Croan’s will also be running the final of their Talent Show. This event will be held in The Big Red Barn.

Admission, on both days, is Adults, €13; with OAP/Students, €8. The “Ros Special”: €30 to include admission, race card, two-course meal and €10 betting voucher.
