Buccaneers RFC News update February 15th

Henshaw Leaving Connacht

Robbie Henshaw has confirmed that he will be leaving Connacht at the end of the current season. But where the 16-times capped Ireland centre will play next season has not been revealed yet. Robbie has enjoyed a tremendous few seasons and, with Connacht going so well this term, he cannot have made his decision lightly. The western province are well positioned to qualify for next year’s Champions Cup but probably do not have the strength in depth required to compete at the very top level. Hence, this writer (Ed Note: Club PRO) believes, that it is best for Henshaw to move to a club with greater resources and thus more likely to achieve success. Assuming he will be retained by the IRFU, Leinster looks the most likely move but, regardless of where he goes, here’s wishing continued success to Robbie. Best of luck also to Rodney Ah You who is transferring to Ulster and perhaps he could be joined there by Henshaw?

Meanwhile, Henshaw will receive yet another award at the Westmeath Independent Sports Awards 2015 being held in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel, Athlone, on Friday night. Another young Buccaneers RFC player Stephen McVeigh will also be presented with a monthly award at this event. Any club members wishing to attend can contact the hotel directly or the club to book tickets for what should be a memorable event.

Well done

Congratulations to Conor Kenny who started for Ireland U-20s away to France last weekend.

Strictly Scrum Dancing Hugely Successful

‘STRICTLY SCRUM DANCING – – the Buccs way!’ proved a tremendous success last weekend. It was a massively entertaining couple of nights and thanks goes to all who participated and supported the two nights, especially our 32 dancers. Congratulations to the winners Chara Schultz and Nicky Purcell (Friday) and Frances McVeigh and Pat Hynes (Saturday). See separate report here.
