Gorse Fires are continuing to ravage parts of Roscommon with an area between Frenchpark, Castlerea and Loughglynn being badly affected as well as a large part of Kilronan Mountain.
The dry weather and high temperatures, coupled with strong breezes, are making the task difficult for local fire crews who are aiming to control the spread and extinguish the fires. At present the R325 Castlerea to Loughglynn Road has been closed following the spread of a fire. Earlier this week the Castlerea – Frenchpark Road was closed as smoke from a fire made driving conditions difficult and two cars were involved in an accident. It is believed that a large area of forestry has also been destroyed.
Elsewhere Fire crews from Boyle, Ballinamore and Carrick on Shannon are battling the blaze on Kilronan Mountain.
