St Brigids U14s Boys

Our u14’s had a very busy week with both teams in action Thursday and on Saturday.
The Division 4 team had a narrow win over Roscommon Gaels in Kiltoom, winning by 4 points after a tight game. Paddy Higgins, James O’Rourke and Liam Hennelly were outstanding in this game.

The Division 1 team had a comprehensive win over Roscommon Gaels and registered their first league points of the season. Thomas O’Brien and Daniel Keenan lead the way, as a gallant young Gaels team made our lads fight all the way for the victory.

On Saturday 25 players travelled to Doora Barefiled near Ennis for a 4 team tournament with Doora- Barefield, Austin Stacks (Tralee) and St.James (Mervue). We played 4 games and all players got plenty of opportunity to play against teams from other counties. The lads showed great heart and spirit in all four games and played some wonderful football, despite some very tired limbs, particularly in the latter games. This was a great opportunity for some of our younger players to play with the Div 1 team and Daniel Skene, Luke Whelan (with a brilliant goal) and Eoin Reid can be very proud of their performances. There were also great performance throughout the day from Martin O’Grady, Michael Sugrue, Bobby Nugent, Daniel Meeley and Davy Dolan.
Squad for both days:
K.Derwin, S.Daly, A.Donovan,D.Dolan,D.Meeley, B.Nestor,M.Sugrue,T.O’Brien,M.O’Grady 0,R.Doyle, C.Hand , P.Higgins,D.Keenan, B.Nugent1-1, J.Curley , O.Canny, P.Higgins, M.Sammuals, L.Hennelly, H.Griselan, O.Benton, B.Gonley, L.Murphy,B.Armstron, D.Skehan, S.Trundle, J.O’Rourke, P.Higgins, E.McDonnell, E.Reid, A.O’Donoghue, L.Whelan, H.Cunniffe, J.Goose.

St Brigids U14 Boys Div 1: St Brigids 3-11 Padraig Pearses 5-6

Our Div 1 team lost narrowly to Pearses in an exciting game in Kiltoom on Monday evening. Brigids were very sluggish at the start and allowed Pearses to get off to a great start and andfound themselves 10 points down after only 15 minutes. Some positional switches and inspirational play by Adam O’Donovan and Oisin Canny awoke our lads and they played some great football for the remainder of the half to reduce the deficit to just 2 points at the break. Brigids commenced the 2ndhalf in the same style and raced into the lead for the first time in the game. However, some slack defending allowed Pearsesin for two soft goals. Two further points followed to establish a 4 point lead going into the last 10 minutes. Brigids rallied again and reduced the deficit to two points, but despite some brave attacking play, Pearses managed to hold on the the lead until the final whistle and just about deserved their victory. While our lads were disappointed to lose this game, they can take great heart from the football they played and the determination they showed to come from 10 points down, but will need to ensure that they play for a full 60 minutes in future. Team and scorers:
K.Derwin, S.Daly, A.Donovan,D.Dolan,D.Meeley,B.Nestor,M.Sugrue,T.O’Brien1-1,M.O’Grady 0-1,R.Doyle, C.Hand 0-2, P.Higgins,D.Keenan1-1, B.Nugent1-1, J.Curley 0-1. Subs O.Canny 0-4 for P.Higgins.

U14 Boys Div 4: St Brigids 4-8, Padraig Pearses 1-2

Our Division 4 team got their Spring league campaign off to a great start with a fine win in Woodmount on Saturday evening.. From the start of the game, Liam, Harry and Oran were solid in defence and Daniel and Sol dominated midfield and provided a plentiful supply of good ball into the forwards. Despite some great movement and passing combinations by Alex, Eoin and Luke, some poor finishing and decision making, ensured that Brigids only had 2 scores to show for their efforts at half time.
Some early scores by Pearses in the second half ensured that the game remained in the balance, but the Brigids forwards then found their scoring touch and reeled off some great scores to finally put daylight between the teams. Paddy, James and Eanna’s hard work eventually paid off in the half forward line and they contributed 2-6 between them. In addition to the above mentioned, Matthew’s kickouts set up numerous attacks, and Brian G, Luke and Bryan A were outstanding throughout the game in the half back line.
Team: M.Sammuals, L.Hennelly, H.Griselan, O.Benton, B.Gonley, L.Murphy,B.Armstron, D.Skehan, S.Trundle 0-1, J.O’Rourke 0-3, P.Higgins 1-2, E.McDonnell 1-1, E.Reid 1-0, A.O’Donoghue1-0, L.Whelan 0-1.

It was a tight game throughout with both teams just edging a lead at various stages of the game. St. Dominic’s had more firepower in front of goals and our girls just couldn’t match them at the end.
Team: M. Nolan, I. Finnerty, S. Dolan, A. McGrath, A. Lennon, E. Gleeson, H. Martin 0-1, K. Nolan 1-1, L. Gallagher 0-1, A. Curran 0-2, E. Curran 0-1, J. McGrane 0-1, A. Fallon 1-0, A. Whyte 0-6, A. Nestor. Subs: N. Donnelly.
