Tremane draw with Dominics in Hurling League opener

Tremane

Tremane began their County Senior League campaign on a wonderfully sunny April evening in Lanes last Sunday against neighbours St Dominics.

Early season was evident as Tremane started slowly and a wind assisted St Dominic’s led 1-5 to 0-3 after 25 minutes with a point from play from Johnny Blighe and some good shot stopping from Liam Murray and Kevin Kellehan our main highlights. We finished the half strongly to trail by just 2 at the break with Dylan Keaveney consistent with frees and 65s, and a long range effort from Peter Kellehan.

Despite the setback of an early second half goal, Tremane dominated the next 15 minutes with some great scores from play Joe and John Brennan, Michael Kellehan and Sean Mahony, Dylan knocking over a couple of frees and Johnny Blighe growing into his unaccustomed role at corner forward by adding a well-deserved goal. With 15 minutes to go we had turned a 5 point deficit into a 1-12 to 2-5 lead. St Dominic’s inevitably got back into the game with a few scores, but with further points from Dylan Keaveney and Peter Kellehan, we lead by 3 in injury time only to be sucker punched by an equalising goal right at the end to finish Tremane 1-15 St Dominics 3-9.

Despite this late setback, it was a good run out for the team with a number of new players getting game time including Jack Naughton, Liam Murray and Paul Burke.
