The recruitment of a child psychologist for County Roscommon is to be treated as a priority by the HSE, local Minister Denis Naughten has confirmed.

Minister Denis Naughten had sought approval of the post to address the growing waiting list of children in the county who are unable to access child psychology services.

“The vacant position in Primary Care Psychology in Roscommon meant those referred to this service were not being seen,” stated Minister Naughten.

“In Roscommon this post accounts for 50% of the Primary Care Staff Grade cover and as a consequence the service did not have staffing resources to cover this post.

“However, following my intervention I have been informed by the Department of Health this week that a replacement post has been approved and a basic grade psychology panel is now in place.

“The Chief Officer of the Community Health Organisation 2, which has responsibility for primary care services in Roscommon and Galway, is liaising with the National Recruitment Services and the vacancy is being treated as a priority and will be filled as soon as possible,” added Minister Naughten
