Clann na nGael

Ballyboden St Enda’s Under 12 Blitz
A fantastic day out for our end of year event. We entered two teams in the Ballyboden St Enda’s blitz. An early start from Summerhill on the Club Rossie Bus meant we were in plenty time for the start of the tournament. Our Division 1 team won all their group games defeating Baileboro (winners of the Gowna tournament earlier in the year), Celbridge and in the final group game, Clann put in a monumental performance against the host’s first team to record a 1-5 to 0-1 win and set us up for the Cup Final against Naas. Tiredness was a major factor, but another battling performance followed, however, they came up just short on a scoreline of 4-4 to 3-2.

Meanwhile, our Division 4 team played in the second tier of the tournament playing against older and much bigger players. Nevertheless they finished a very credible third in their group, beating Ballyboden’s third team on the way to plate final, losing the final to Ballyboden’s second team by a narrow margin of two points.
A superb effort all round and a great way to wrap up the season.

Best of luck to all the lads moving up to U.14’s. Thanks to the manager Declan O’Flaherty and all those who helped with coaching throughout the year including Mike Campion, Ollie Colgen, Mick Galvin, Tony O’Neill, Terry O’Neill, Joey Connaughton, Tommy Ward, Fergal Shine, Tony Henry.
Huge thanks to all the parents and guardians for all their support this year.

Under 20 Championship
Roscommon Gaels 0-8 Clann na nGael 1-16

Clann got off to a great start on Saturday evening last in Lisnamult. Having won this competition for the last two years a good performance was required to keep momentum going.
Clann put pressure on right from the start with fast attacking play and slick passing of the ball, Jamie Fahy and Mark Shine were on target and caused problems for the Gaels defence, but the Clann defence was very impressive keeping the opposition score line to just two points in the first half. Martin Flannery had a fine game in the centre of defence.

Newcomers to the Clann side Sea Henry and Damian Duff made penetrating runs through the Gaels defence and Sea put his name on the score sheet with some well taken points. Cathal Callinan commanded to midfield area and set up several scores but had to leave the field on the a technical infringement (gum shield). All referees have set down a marker in this respect going forward. Roscommon Gaels had a purple spell in the second half with Brian Kelly scoring most of their tally. Clann ran out easy winners at the end and look promising for the future with stiffer opposition to come St. Ciaran’s and St. Brigid’s.
