The 2016 SuperValu Tidy Towns winners were announced at a ceremony in Dublin Castle today (Monday).
Skerries in County Dublin was named Ireland’s Tidiest town but there was plenty to cheer about for the Roscommon Tidy Towns Committees.
In the Ireland’s Tidiest Village category Castlecoote scored 324 points, just two behind category winner Birdhill from County Tipperary. Keadue scored 323 and both were awarded Gold Medals and €900 for their efforts. Ballintubber scored 316 points received a Bronze Medal Award with Cloontuskert just two points behind. Both received prizes of €400.
Ballintubber was also one of 10 winners nationally in the “Let’s get Buzzing” Local Authority Pollinator Award. That Award came with a prize of €1,000 sponsored by the Local Authority Prize Fund.
In the Ireland’s Tidiest Large Town category Roscommon town scored 311 points; 16 points behind Skerries. In doing so they secured a Silver Award and €700.
Kilteevan won the Endeavour Award €500 scoring 266 points; an increase of 6.39% on last year.
County Awards
Castlecoote retained it’s title as Roscommon’s tidiest, scoring 324 points. Keadue was highly commended, finishing just a point behind with Ballintubber in third place on 316 points. The Tidy Towns Committees in those three localities received prizes of €1,000, €800 and €500 respectively.
