Lough Key Parkrun

On Saturday last RTÉ’s Celebrity Operation Transformation came to County Roscommon to take part in the weekly Lough Key parkrun and a bumper crowd followed.

Actor and Comedian Katherine Lynch, and Operation Transformation Coach Karl Henry joined the regular Lough Key “parkrunners” for a 5k run/walk/jog around beautiful Lough Key Forest Park. Numbers at the event were boosted by viewers of Celebrity Operation Transformation and the beautiful autumn weather was a godsend. Almost three hundred runners, walkers, joggers, dog athletes, buggy runners, adults and children took part in the parkrun.

The morning’s event will feature on Episode Two of Celebrity Operation Transformation this Wednesday, September 14th, at 9:35pm on RTÉ 1. Anyone wishing to follow Katherine Lynch on her journey can register now on the OT website.

What is a parkrun?

The Lough Key parkrun is a free timed weekly 5 kilometre run/jog/walk in the beautiful surroundings of Lough Key Forest Park, located just off the N4. Intending runners / walkers must register here, print their allocated Barcode and bring it with them on the morning of the run. parkruns take place every Saturday morning at 9.30am. Following the 5k run participants will receive an email with very detailed results of their run/walk.

Up to now the Lough Key parkrun has been attracting numbers of up to 150 runners/walkers ever Saturday including many “parkrun tourists” from all over Ireland. It is hoped that last week’s bumper crowd will return on a regular basis.
